  1. Heya! I have a free open source game project done with phaser. It's kinda like Heroes of Might and Magic 3 combined with Magic: the Gathering (or you can think Pokemon combined with chess). A new version was released earlier this week https://AncientBeast.com - the source files are hosted here https://github.com/FreezingMoon/AncientBeast - could really use some help coding, like fixing small things and such, it would mean a lot to me and go a long way for the project :-)

  2. Hello Den! Hopefully I'm not too late with my reply. I have a free open source game that's done with phaser (javascript/nodejs). I could really use more coding help. The official website is https://AncientBeast.com - it includes a lot of into about the project, along with screenies and even working prototype. You can check the chat page for gitter or discord. The repository is over here https://github.com/FreezingMoon/AncientBeast - feel free to give it a star / fork :-) Best regards, Vali
  3. Apparently this is becoming rather common for game devs to do if they ever get married xD

It's been about 3 long years since the last release, while the prototype broke shortly after. While this version is not yet ready for the mainstream, it is a very important long awaited step forward. Hope to get you hooked, more is coming! Here's what's HOT! The list of changes is quite extensive, but I don't like to bore you with any details unless you are really craving for those. Anyway, here's the summary: The prototype has been finally fixed! All existing units have been revamped! 5 new playable creatures added, fun! Check a more detailed changelog on the blog and give the game a go after :-)
  5. Version 0.3 of Ancient Beast has been released! Blog article showcasing the change log https://AncientBeast.com/blog/2017-03-15/ It's now using Phaser 2.3.0, so feel free to update the game list.
  6. Thanks! This model won two first prizes in various online cg competitions. It wasn't done by me, about 3 skilled artists worked on it. I'm a pretty proficient organic 3d modeled myself, but when it comes to the project, usually looking to work with people that are specialized in a certain area and do it really well, as I'm wearing too many hats myself... time and energy are limited and things tend to change fast in some fields. Anyway, for the project I'm working with quite a few people, basically anyone that pleases, as it's open source after all, that's the whole point. We're building a huge library/repository of original characters using blender 3d, all available for whatever purpose you want, under CC-by-SA 3.0. I'm talking 50+ characters. Personally I think 3d Studio Max is kinda crappy and can't really hold a candle for blender (I've learned and used most 3d packages myself). I think it's important to have a low entry barrier for making / viewing / using the models. Even if the project is underground, I'm constantly bumping into various project creatures online on various websites. Only requirement is to credit/link the project (and ideally artists involved if possible); if the work is derived, also sharing it under the same license. We have quite a lot of creature artwork. 3d artists see the stuff and take a swing at modeling one or more units, for various reasons. Quite a few units modeled so far, but I'm hoping to get some funding next year to make sure everything is going like clockwork regarding 3D modeling and animation.
  7. I put a lot of time, energy, love and even money into it, big thanks, seeker! The creatures will eventually be animated http://ancientbeast.com/viewer Feel free to subscribe to the newsletter, as I'll make an announcement when the new version will be ready and I'll be beta-testing it with whoever willing, by using desktop sharing and taking turns using the mouse/keyboard. Tested the old version with dozens of people like that, but it's been a while, so I'm really looking forward to properly playing the new version, almost there ^^ Subscription widget over here http://ancientbeast.com/#subscribe
  8. Heya! I have a free open source game project. It's using phaser, so it's browser based. You can think of it as a more advanced/strategical Pokemon battle game, since I noticed quite a few repositories related to it in your profile. It's a turn based strategy, with RPG elements (mostly based on Heroes of Might and Magic 3, combined with chess and mobas). You can find the official website over here https://AncientBeast.com - there's a prototype, but still broken until the next version is released, in about 2 weeks. Could really use more coding help (javascript and node.js in the future). The repo is https://github.com/FreezingMoon/AncientBeast - let me know if you have any questions. Also, feel free to drop by our chat page ~ https://gitter.im/FreezingMoon/AncientBeast Regards, Vali

Thanks. That's the opposite reason for not eventually play it xD Haven't played HoMM2 much, but looked into it quite a bit via youtube mostly.

Yes, but everything at the right time. The gameplay is currently broken (until next version, hopefully released in one month from now) and there's no online multiplayer, which is more important than animations, hopefully that feature will be added later this year as well. Here's a sample walking animation of Swampler creature http://ancientbeast.com/viewer The project is kinda big, but very modular. A lot of money bounties will be placed on various github issues soon, I've updated initial post with more info.

Thanks, yes it is. Kinda like a spiritual successor for the fans, but just combat for now, done way better (more strategical and fun).
  12. Sure thing! Doing nodejs game as well, feel free to join our chatroom https://gitter.im/FreezingMoon/AncientBeast
  13. Hello! I like your post, because I'm doing something like this for a long time now. The only issue is that I'm not super great at javascript myself (always struggling with it), so I'm actually relying on others for that some of the time. I'm even about to hire a part-time coder.
  14. Keep in mind that Ancient Beast is currently broken as most abilities got redesigned and the project no longer had a gameplay maintainer for a long time, so I'm only starting to get things back on track and involve more coders now to help with that, fixing issues in the development version. There should be a once again playable release in a few months if things go well. Will add more warnings on the website soon just to make things more clear.
  15. Hello! I'm a game designer (also 3d artist and a bit of web coder), making free open source games for the browser. Been working on one of the projects for a long time now, but I'm always struggling with the gameplay coding, especially when it comes to multiplayer stuff. Check out https://AncientBeast.com - https://github.com/FreezingMoon/AncientBeast - it's a prototype (somewhat broken atm), so it lacks animations and online multiplayer, but I'm even looking to hire a part time coder or at least offer bounties for various tasks soon. It's a turn based strategy game, taking elements from Heroes of Might and Magic 3, mobas (dota 2 / league of legends), chess and trading card games (TCG/CCG), while not being chance based at all, extremely strategical (kung-fu for the mind) and very replayable. I also have more prototypes (part of Freezing Moon, my work in progress NPO), so I'm constantly wanting to get people involved in sort of remaking old awesome games as open source, while also getting their design to a whole new level, removing most of the flaws the old games had. Anyway, I'm always about quality over quantity, so I don't want to spawn a lot of unpolished inferior shovelware games, but rather spend years and even decades to make outstanding stuff. So if you're patient like me and interested in joining forces to make gaming history, that would be awesome ^^ I'm usually around the chat page of the website (#AncientBeast on Freenode).
