  2. js13kGames 2017

    It's that time of the year again - time to start thinking about the js13kGames competition. The sixth edition will start on August 13th, 13:00 CEST and will run for a month. For those who don't know it yet: it's an online competition for HTML5 game developers where the fun part is the file size limit set to 13 kilobytes. Check the rules for details. There are always notable judges, lots of cool prizes, and free t-shirts for all entries shipped worldwide. See the forum topics from previous years for reference: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016. Follow the compo profiles on Twitter and Facebook to be up to date with all the news and announcements. I'm looking for prizes and sponsors, so if you can help with either of those please get in touch! So, who's going to participate?

    Happy to help. You know, A-Frame is totally capable of serving as a game framework (see 28 examples of that from js13kGames 2017), I've used it for that purpose myself many times too. If you need physics etc you'll find components in the Registry.

    It does not have such mode. Phaser is 2D while VR is 3D. You could make a 2D game inside 3D environment if you're crazy enough, but I suggest you should look into 3D frameworks like Babylon or PlayCanvas.

    I've tested it and it works fine on my Smart TV without any errors, so I can't say where you're having issues. It's probably because of your TV rather than the game itself, but no idea why.

    Phaser is definitely able to run games on Smart TVs, see this one for example: https://hacks.mozilla.org/2016/01/building-games-for-firefox-os-tv/ Although without the source code I have no idea why yours is not working properly.

    Thanks for maintaining it, I'm sure some devs will use it during the compo!     Check the html5gameengine.com website for an overview on the most popular ones, and jsbreakouts.org if you want to compare the source code of some of them when building an example 2D Breakout game.

    It's not about performance but the functionality you want to achieve. You can do the collisions manually with every single enemy, or do it a lot easier with the Phaser's built in functionality with groups - from the game's point of view you're doing exactly the same.

    Your collision detection only checks for the last one created - try colliding with the whole group of enemies: this.game.physics.arcade.collide(this.player, this.enemyPool);
