    I can't even press the Start button - the game throws errors in the console about window.event and mouseX. Using latest Firefox on macOS.

    Wherever it will be posted, it will be a great read for the Gamedev.js Weekly newsletter for sure. Anyway, great job with the game demo, can't wait to learn what's cooking under the hood
  4. It wasn't Bitcoin, but another cryptocurrency - Monero. The Pirate Bay published a blog post about the experiment, but not many people saw it. The mining script did run in the background on the website and many people were surprised by that, even angry. In theory that's an interesting thing to consider and investigate in the future, but currently it's treated more like a scam than a viable option, at least that's what I'm seeing. It must be clearly visible, you should be able to turn it on/off and set how much CPU power it consumes, otherwise it will be treated worse than spam and will be blocked by adblockers, antiviruses etc.

    Well, it's a renderer... ;] The authors themselves call it "The HTML5 Creation Engine", but then there's also "Create beautiful digital content with the fastest, most flexible 2D WebGL renderer". I wouldn't worry that much on the terminology though.

Yeah, right now it's more like crazy market with stock prices going up and down all the time rather than a stable currency with reasonable exchange rate, but there are already some interesting ways to use blockchain with cryptocurrencies, and the pioneers may (or may not) have an advantage in the future.
  10. I have to admit I'm also looking into cryptocurrencies, expecially mining them as an alternative to adverts. It's something new as a concept, so it could work, but can also be a total flop - time will tell. Anyway, good luck with your endeavours!

    It's that time of the year again - time to start thinking about the js13kGames competition. The sixth edition will start on August 13th, 13:00 CEST and will run for a month. For those who don't know it yet: it's an online competition for HTML5 game developers where the fun part is the file size limit set to 13 kilobytes. Check the rules for details. There are always notable judges, lots of cool prizes, and free t-shirts for all entries shipped worldwide. See the forum topics from previous years for reference: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016. Follow the compo profiles on Twitter and Facebook to be up to date with all the news and announcements. I'm looking for prizes and sponsors, so if you can help with either of those please get in touch! So, who's going to participate?

  15. Virtual Reality, VR with Phaser

    Happy to help. You know, A-Frame is totally capable of serving as a game framework (see 28 examples of that from js13kGames 2017), I've used it for that purpose myself many times too. If you need physics etc you'll find components in the Registry.

    It does not have such mode. Phaser is 2D while VR is 3D. You could make a 2D game inside 3D environment if you're crazy enough, but I suggest you should look into 3D frameworks like Babylon or PlayCanvas.

    I've tested it and it works fine on my Smart TV without any errors, so I can't say where you're having issues. It's probably because of your TV rather than the game itself, but no idea why.

    Phaser is definitely able to run games on Smart TVs, see this one for example: https://hacks.mozilla.org/2016/01/building-games-for-firefox-os-tv/ Although without the source code I have no idea why yours is not working properly.
