Definitely looking forward to this edition, it will give me an excuse to make a game, and it's always so much fun to work with these constraints. Definitely recommend participating for those who haven't yet

Yes, tweening a score is totally possible. Check out my Enclave Phaser Template - there's a Game.js file with gameOverScreen function, or see this commit in particular:
      gameoverScoreTween: function() { this.screenGameoverScore.setText('Score: 0'); if(this._score) { this.tweenedPoints = 0; var pointsTween = this.add.tween(this); pointsTween.to({ tweenedPoints: this._score }, 1000, Phaser.Easing.Linear.None, true, 500); pointsTween.onUpdateCallback(function(){ this.screenGameoverScore.setText('Score: '+Math.floor(this.tweenedPoints)); }, this); pointsTween.onComplete.addOnce(function(){ this.screenGameoverScore.setText('Score: '+this._score); }, this); pointsTween.start(); } }, It's good to remember that when tweening the score you can hook up to onUpdateCallback to update the score text during tween.

The fifth edition of the js13kGames competition starts in more than two months, but I wanted to slowly start organizing everything already. I'll announce everything here, and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

For those who don't know: it's a JavaScript coding competition for HTML5 game developers. You have a month (from August 13th till September 13th) to create a game on the given theme (announced at the start of the compo) that have to fit into the 13 kilobytes limit with all the resources when zipped. It is a challenge, but the one that spawns creativity.
Check out rules and previous entries, forum topics from 2014 and 2015, follow compo on Twitter and Facebook for updates. Check the Resources page for tools and other useful materials.
And yes, I'm trying to improve the rules, voting system, and backend from your feedback taken over the years. Remember: I failed with so many things every single year and I will probably fail also this time. The compo is suppose to be for fun, and I'm doing everything mostly on my own in my free time, so instead of complaining feel free to help - thanks.

I always look forward to this competition, even though I can't compete myself (engine export starts at 1MB). Good luck to everyone that enters!

Thanks for the feedback. As I said in the post - it is a demo and the full version will have everything you mentioned and more.
The boss should shoot all the time, so it have to be some kind of a bug - I'll check it out. Explosion of a power up is a good idea. And the health meter for the boss should be there, so it must be a bug too. Thanks for finding those!

Technically it's a very good game, the graphics and sound and controls are all very well made. I especially like the screen shake effect when things explode. But it could use a little more variation; I mean more enemies, attack patterns, differnt bosses, weapon-powerups, other hazards than just meteors etc.
And I think there's a bug with the boss logic. The first boss shoots projectiles but starting with the second boss it doesn't shoot at all, making it really easy to beat. Also, maybe add an explosion when shooting the powerups. I first thought I had to shoot the stars and green-plus signs to get them. And the boss could use a health meter too, so you know how far you beat it.

Well, I can't, and yes - at some degree I rely on honesty ^^
Theme will be announced when the compo actually starts, and the judges will give points, among other factors, based on the implementation of the theme. It wasn't so strict through the years so if you're motivated enough and will work all year and create something without implementing the theme yet it'll be so awesome that it'll win the competition, then good for you

I'm working on a sequel to my first game with Captain Rogers as a main character. It was called Asteroid Belt of Sirius and was created in the prehistoric times of May 2013. It's high time to do some proper battle as Rogers finally learned how to shoot! I did the coding and Blackmoondev did the graphics, again.

    Play the demo: http://rogers2.enclavegames.com/demo/
There's a short blog post about it too if you're interested. The full version will have more everything: worlds (backgrounds), weapons, bonuses, enemies and bosses.
I'd love to have feedback from you, thanks!

Yes, I like the graphics and gameplay. The music is catchy with its syncopated rhythm. I couldn't beat the boss in 2 tries, but yes, I like it.

Check out the latest game from PlayCanvas: SWERVE!

    PLAY NOW
It's a simple but addictive casual game. It's super-lightweight, and is playable after loading just 1.8MB of data. It should run pretty much everywhere: smartphones, tablets, desktop.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? If you use Twitter and like the game, please retweet our announcement. We'd really appreciate it!
Hopefully, it's a good illustration of what you can build in PlayCanvas with just a few days effort. Want to make something similar? Head to https://playcanvas.com and get creative!

This is beautifully polished! Would definitely do better on a mobile device, easier to press the different shapes and react with my fingers than the mouse haha (an excuse for a poor performance). Really love the theme, finish and how it all ties together. Constantly struggling to reach this level of quality.

It's good to see cool Ludum Dare entries made with Phaser - I also did one. It's a very simple shape collecting mobile game. Me and my wife decided to finish a game, no matter how small. It won't win any prizes, and you can probably find a lot more games like this. Still, it's something.

Play the game online at shapes.enclavegames.com
You can also rate the game on LudumDare's page
I've used our Enclave Phaser Template and was inspired by the Off The Hook demo game from Interphase 1. You can read the post mortem on my blog - how we managed to make a game in a team of three where one was my one month old daughter.
