  4. Creating isometric assets

Hello all! I'm currently making an isometric game using Phaser and the superb isometric plugin. However when it comes to creating assets I hit a wall. When searching online I don't really find something useful on best practice on creating isometric art but a few tutorials. If I want to a few characters - say same form, different clothes - in eight directions should I use a program life Inkscape and draw all of the different angles or should I create a 3D model and take pictures. I find the information on the topic very lacking. Thanks in advance for any answer! :-)

  9. Artist Portfolio Discussion

Morning! I've been wanting to put some work together and try to apply to some mobile/web game studios and I really want to know the best way to approach the market. Still images? Animations? Small games? What would be impressive? I had an idea to look thru bad games on mobile market and make fake screenshots of how it could look? If anyone has any portfolios they think are good representations that would be awesome! Let's talk!
  10. I need a pixel artist for a platformer I'm working on! Contact me at alecm@sfu.ca for more specifics. Working on a retro-styled 2D platformer game. Essentially, a film noire detective story platformer, with a combination of precise jumps, melee fighting, and gadget puzzles. Tentatively titled "Dark Room: A Quentin O'Reilly Adventure". The game is a resolution of 512x288px, or 32 tiles x 18 tiles (consisting of 16x16px tiles). I'm looking for the following: - some animated character sprites (approx. 48px by 16px) - environment tiles, walls, platforms, various objects, etc. (16px by 16px square) - misc assets, GUI, HUD, etc. TBD. Initially, I'm interesting in a main character design (the detective) and some sample assets which fit the genre. If your style fits, more work would follow! The game is a hobby, with a goal of building a demo to release to a few of my contacts in the games industry before considering full development and a full release. If the demo is successful, and the game art style and mechanics seem fruitful, I will build a Kickstarter campaign leading to a full release on the Mac App Store or though the Humble Store, or equivalent. I cannot initially pay you, I am simply offering a chance to build portfolio. If your style fits, and development continues with your art, you will receive listing in the game's credits. If the game reaches Kickstarter or paid release (whichever is first), you will receive monetary compensation for your work. I look forward to hearing from you!

  21. How do game devs make draw the art?

I've been coding some basic games in JS for the last 3 months and so far I achieved my goals been able to make them without needing to draw things myself (used free to use sprites) and also most of the games didn't even need images. I did almost everything with rect and arc. But now I want to move on to some more "elaborate" stuff, in the sense that there will now be images and characters that I myself would like to make. Problem is, I'm not from an art background, just programming. My game now is simple, graphics like sword and sworcery (that pixelated type of style). How can I make images like those in sword and sworcery? Is it feasible or will I have to hire an artist? If possible I would like to do everything myself.

So I'm getting to a point in my game where I'm mostly done with the mechanics and I want start putting in video sequences in between the levels. But I don't know how, I was wondering if something like this would work: var v = new Video();v.src = "mov_bbb.mp4";var c = document.getElementById("myCanvas");var ctx = c.getContext("2d");v.play();function render(){ ctx.drawImage(v, 0, 0);}setInterval(render,100); If not, how may I accomplish this?
