Game for sale (easy re-sell money for devs, please read)

Here's the situation. I made a HTML5 game, it's a nice looking match 3 type game. It's my first HTML5/Phaser game. I showed it to a big sponsor who liked it, and wanted to buy it for a decent amount of money (more than $1000). However after waiting 4 weeks it failed their QA, because it didn't display properly in their testing tool, (scaling issues) and it didn't display properly on the iPhone C and a Samsung tablet.

Unfortunately I don't own those devices so I wasn't able to solve the issues and the contract to the big sponsor was cancelled.

The point of this post though is that I've got a game, which is worth money, can be sold and I can't do anything with it, so I'm looking to sell it to another developer. All they would have to do to make easy money is fix any QA issues, and then probably even the original sponsor would be willing to buy it again. Or you could sell it to someone else.

If you're wondering why don't I sell it to another sponsor? it just takes too long to get that whole process going, and I would rather just sell it to a developer for a bargain price, and make at least some money from it.

Whoever is interested in buying the game, will get full rights to sell the game, all the source code, graphics, and I'll even provide the original QA report so you can see for yourself what needed to be fixed.

There literally is money going to waste here, but I can't take advantage of it, so if you are interested in buying this game from me, email me at [email protected] .

Hey, bad luck losing the deal there. Isn't the iPhone 5C display the same as any other iPhone 5 though? Or an iPod with a 4 inch display? I know I've always treated them as interchangeable.

Did they also say which samsung tablet they had problems with?

The samsung was the "Samsung G. Tab 2 7" (4.1.1)" and I've only got an iPhone 4s.

Yeah, there's money to be made for someone who can fix those issues, it's not something I can do right now so I would rather just sell it off to another dev, and make a bit out of it and then they can go on and sale the game and make a nice amount :) I've not sold the game to anyone else, so it can still be sold as an exclusive.

This is true, I've debugged a samsung bug before by running the appropriate emulator through IntelliJ with adb and found I was quickly able to replicate the problem and fix it. I didn't mention this before though as I got the impression BiggerPlay has already made the decision to sell the game so didn't want to seem like I was making a huge issue out of it!

I'll make you an offer: Send me the game and I'll get it scaling properly on those devices so it passes QA. If you then sell it, you can make me a small donation if you wish.

That's very kind of you, but it's not just a question of it passing the QA this time, I'm totally new to HTML5/JS games so even though I can code 99% of them easily, I can get stuck on the little things which an experienced HTML5 game dev can take care of in no time. So for this game I would rather just pass it on to someone else, pat them on them back and let them make a good amount of money out of it :)

The deal Rich just offered was pretty awesome, I can't believe you just turned that down!

It was very cool of him to offer, but the development of the game I'm selling took me 5 days, and then I had to spend 1 month messing around with various sponsors and then another 4 weeks waiting for one of those sponsors to finally get around and tell me it had failed their QA. I'm sure Rich could fix the issues in a matter of minutes, but then what? wait another 4 weeks for a sponsor to get around to testing it again, to tell me it doesn't quite work perfectly on another device? how long exactly do I keep on doing that? :) and on top of all of that is what I said above that I'm new to Html5/JS/Phaser, I don't want to get caught for days/weeks on some small bug which someone with more experience can fix easily. So the best thing in this situation is to sell the game to an experienced HTML5 game dev and let them profit from it, I'll get some money for my time and everyone wins. Now it's just a question of who buys it :)

Fair enough :) However if you don't learn how to pass QA with this game (or even your next one), when are you ever going to do it? :)

When I've got more devices :) I was hoping that the publishers wouldn't be ultra fussy, as the game runs fine on my iPhone 4S/iPad mini and in Chrome on the Mac, but it seems they are ultra fussy so I'm just going to have to wait until I've got some more devices than at least I can deal with any issues that pop up during QA.

OK. You should probably make it public.

I tested it and it didn't run in Firefox for OS X.

No reason why it shouldn't, it runs fine on google Chrome, but that's why I'm looking to sale it, a more experienced game dev can fix those issues easily. I'd prefer not to make it public, but I'm happy to share the link with anyone who is interested in buying it.

Here's a screen shot. This game has not been sold to anyone, so still can be sold under an exclusive license, and I was offered more than $1000 for it originally. I'm willing to sell it to a dev for a bargain price. You will get full rights to the game, all the graphics, all the code, and music (to use in the game).

I suggest you follow what experts (Rich) said above, the deal he offered to you is very cool, and the best part of it is not that you are finally going to sell your game but the fact that you will be able to see and learn how the problem was solved, the main reason that keep me go slow with HTML5 game development is testing but HTML5 is not and will not be my main field, so if you are planning to not do the same, i advice to fight a bit more with these problems cause it really worth it.

PS :

the game visuals looks promising ^^

If Rich wants to fix those problems that would be great, but it doesn't solve the issue that to do HTML5 game development you need a lot of testing devices, which currently I don't have.

Based on what you mentioned above, i understand that you are only struggling with different screen resolutions, which is a piece of cake compared to other issues (fps drop and unexpected bugs ), i sell mobile games made with native languages or Unity3D (based on client request) and even when am working with Unity3D which it has it's own "world" unit that will later adapt to each and every screen, i found myself forced to found a solution to create responsive GUI classes because unity3D GUI doesn't use the "world" unit so it cannot be the same for each and every device out there, and when am using Java i have to make that for the whole game, i simply use values (percentages) that depend on the current device screen resolution instead of absolute pixels.

For HTML5 i think this article can be very helpful :

You really should sit down and think a little bit before selling your game for at least half the price, it is not a good practice to drop a project just because you faced a "hard" problem, specially after spending many time on it, and believe me, the satisfaction you'll get when you solve it is priceless

good luck ;)

Edit:

also don't forget that forums can be very helpful in this specific case, you can simply ask people to test your game on their devices
