How to Export a 3D animation to three.js or any other html5 canvas?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'd like to export an animation from cinema 4d to three.js

I noticed Blender is more three.js friendly but is there any workaround with c4d to export an animated mesh to three.js

Is it possible to export any kind of animation , stop frame , deformer etc ?

Is there anyone here who could help me out or direct me to a secret resource that explains the procedure?

Here is one of my gifs, I'd like to export something similar to three js, would that be possible?

Thanks in advance to anyone who will take the time to read this.

Well, I have no experience with Cinema 4D so all I can do is offer a couple of suggestions:

1. Export you animated mesh in a .dae format.

Blender can import animated meshes in .dae files -  I have done it with models I have animated using tools at Mixamo. I then exported as a .dae and imported that file into Blender. Worked OK.  But you have no guarantee that the C4D .dae exporter and Blender .dae importer will see eye-to-eye

2. Use Babylon.js instead of three.js.

Export from C4d in either an .dae or .fbx format. There is an online convertor that will convert your file to a .babylon file (essentially a json file).  Then use Babylon.js to read, and hopefully animate your mesh

The online convertor is here,

I have no idea if the online convertor handles animations - you might want to ask on Babylon forum.

Here is an example of an animated mesh I created in Blender displayed using Babylon,js - The BlueLady

Good luck.

cheers, gryff :)

Hi Chris,

We've built an animation pipeline to Three.js as part of Verold (http://verold.com). You're welcome to try it out. Just export FBX from C4D, and drag and drop into the Verold editor. We'll convert for you, and provide asset hosting and fallback services for your app.
