  1. Right now we have a weeklong Steam discount for RymdResa with 50% off! The discount is accompanied by a new patch called Winter's Fall. It includes some minor bug fixes and a brand new ship style! More info about Winter's Fall: Opening steam overlay rapidly multiple times will no longer crash the game. We fixed a bug with missing option settings at start. The game no longer crashes if a corrupt save file is created. We've made a new special ship style, equippable on all ships! Fixed a rare bug where savefiles wrote corrupt data to disk.
  2. Patch 1.4.0 - Ariel's Belt We have good news for you! The new patch that we've been working on for the last couple of weeks is finally here. The patch Ariel's Belt makes RymdResa even bigger and better, but upon that the patch contains new difficulty modes; normal mode, expert mode and hardcore mode. Yey! Ariel's Belt is the biggest RymdResa patch we've released so far! To celebrate that we have a weeklong discount on Steam with 33% off! New difficulty modes Normal Expert Hardcore Normal Mode The Original mode Expert Mode You lose all your items, Pilot Level and 50% your Spacepoints when dying! But you keep your chapter progress. Hardcore mode You lose everything if you die! Pray to the RNG Gods! New wonders Blue Gloom Yellow Pyramid Star collector bonus New bonus mechanic, gain items when collecting 100 stars. New base content 12 New ship styles. New exploration stories. 2 new laserbots. 40 new universe primitives (such as galaxies, planets etc). 16 new space zones. New graphic variations to the lovely stones. And... On the startscreen in the left corner we now spawn a star for every human currently in space based on The International Space Station's API. Mac changes We have now switched application framework, the old one was too slow and we now see a 50% performance boost in-game, especially for the ui parts! However this means that the Steam overlay will not be available on mac, but achievements will still be triggered. Bugs, fixes and balancing Redesigned 2 old large ship styles. Chapter and ship selection Ui screens switched place, with new difficulty settings. Resource Stations are no longer stackable. Fixed rendering issues with teleport gate. Teleport gates are no longer stackable. Un-triggered missions with a higher count than needed should now be triggered retroactively. Redesigned evil ships, they now shoots in waves with a cooldown and random set of bullets, lowered the damage from the shots by 50%. UI is now closed correctly when going to research from progress icon. Dropping random files into the game window will no longer automatically turn the game into a filebrowser. Evilstar damage increased. Equipped ship styles are now view-able from ship -selection screen.

  5. We have randomized the seeding for every playthrough so in theory we could have persistent zones and just use the same seed every time. However each zone has randomized spawning based on that zone's rules so even if we had a persistant universe the outcome would be different every time. The seeding doesn't play that big role so we randomize it each time. Average play session depends on your play style. The average player stays alive for about 20-40 minutes. The game mechanics are different in each chapter so they vary in completion time. Yes there is save-games and save states. With inventory items, pilot level, currency, progression, research and more that are saved. You keep your items and pilot level for each death. Upon death you gain a legacy level that can be used to gain a temporary bonus for your next session. For porting, performance is the biggest issue, where ipad is the lowest nominator. After that we have UI, some UI doesn't really make sense when you don't have a mouse and keyboard. You also need it to work nice with gamepad. And the WiiU even has a second monitor that needs some more attention as well. For the code side of things each platform have their quirks and apis that need to be taken in consideration. For example save files on steam, standalone desktop and ipad are obviously not the same but we can just convert the data to a readable format.

  9. RymdResa's Chapter 3 Outro is in the making! The three chapters of RymdResa each end with a small outro with some space-pixels-hd-animated art, twisting the loosely coupled story together. We're getting closer and closer to some kind of release state everyday. This week we've mainly worked on videos, bugs and finishing the entire legacy system and its bonuses. There will be a small icon in-game, displaying whenever you have an active legacy bonus. Feast your eyes on these teasers from the final outro.
  10. We’ve polished the death screen and added support for score, rank and legacy bonus. The score is calculated based on your actions in space. This score is then converted to experience points. The experience points goes into your overall player rank and towards legacy bonus. When you reach a legacy bonus level you gain a random buff, you can either choose to activate the buff when you play the next time, or save it for later. If you choose to save the legacy bonus you can continue to increase your rank to gain a higher bonus. Moreover we’ve made a new cooler Refuel Station.
  11. World generation and procedural patterns in RymdResa's universe is obviously an important part of the game. We're switching to a more stable randomization formula for the core part of the game. Welcome Mersenne Twister! There is a lot of math in space and we have a great foundation with a combination of different techniques that boils down to: Fisher–Yates Shuffle We use this to shuffle quests, items properties, spawn rates, loot tables and it also takes care of populating in zones. Mersenne Twister This is the core randomization formula used everywhere in RymdResa to create variation in space. Simplex Noise We use noise to calculate and distribute our zones in space. The zones take care of selecting what properties a part of space can have and spawn. This is combined with 2d Haversine Formula that we use to track positions in space and to calculate zone sizes and positions. We also have a lot of Gradient Generators , mostly used to generate colors and backgrounds. And of course we have a lot of logarithms for things like items finding, bonus calculations and pilot statistical points. Tweaking all this math is an ongoing process, making the game feel more alive, random and deadly. On the UI-front we have built a new ship selection screen, which you can see on the pictures below! We have also made the ships more different from each other and more specialised. For example we have Gylfi Command - a tank ship that can take a lot of damage and contain a lot of resources, but have a slower speed. We have Lokasenna, a really fast ship, but with bad acceleration. We'll tweak these ships a bit more, but they're soon finished.
  12. We have been working with the zones and balancing. We've, for example, created more contrast between the zones.We scraped the old ones and simply built new better ones. These zones have more unique features than the previous zones had. Dangerous zone means better item-finding. The further you travel into space, the more unique zones you find. If you go up in level and focus in exploring you will also be able to discover more zones.
