Relevance of old Gingerbread (Android 2.3) devices

Recommended Posts

When I was starting out with this whole mobile HTML5 affair, it was sort of common understanding among developers (and publishers), that antique Android 2.3 devices were not the target audience, because all of those were simply too underpowered to develop for with HTML5, the stock browser's capabilities too weak, and the audience to be monetized more or less dwelling in the iOS realm.

Now I feel that publishers are increasingly demanding our products to be Gingerbread-ready and tested. I actually do have a 2.3-device in our testing pool, but still.

Am I the only one to experience this?

I have heard that Android 2.3.x  (apart from 4.x) is still a very popular platform out there...

One possible workaround is to convert your HTML5 game into native Android app to boost performance:

It is offering free cloud services to do the trick.  The result is promising.  But one may argue that it is not a true HTML5 game anymore...
