Lunar Flock Posted yesterday at 11:33 AM Share Posted yesterday at 11:33 AM Penguin Clash is a free 3-minute MOBA that runs in any browser, on a phone or a computer. Tap to move, tap an enemy to focus it, and fire your one power. Destroy the enemy's Moon Beacon, or have the healthier one when time runs out. In the last minute the moon rises and beacons take double damage, so a team that's behind can still turn it around. Play: https://lunarflock.com/clash (no sign-up; practice against bots runs entirely in the page) Also on itch.io: https://lunarflock.itch.io/penguin-clash How it's built Vanilla JavaScript and Canvas 2D, no engine. The client is one esbuild bundle: 147 KB, about 60 KB gzipped. One deterministic engine file runs everything: the same seed and inputs always give the same match, at 20 ticks a second. The server, the offline practice mode and the balance simulator all share it. Online play is server-authoritative on Cloudflare Workers with Durable Objects. A Lobby object does matchmaking and private rooms, and each match is its own Match object that takes taps over a WebSocket and sends snapshots 10 times a second. The client draws about 100 ms behind the server, interpolates, and shows your tap marker at once. Cost: a 3-minute match keeps one Match object busy for about 22 GB-s, so Cloudflare's free tier would cover roughly 575 matches a day. Balance: bots played 18,000 matches while a script reported every trait's win rate. The first version timed out 80% of the time, and ranged units that kited while shooting won 85%, which is why ranged penguins now stop to throw. Feedback we'd love Does it feel responsive at 10 snapshots a second with 100 ms of interpolation, on your connection? How does it play on your phone (portrait, one thumb)? Anything that breaks in your browser. The penguins come from Lunar Flock, a hand-drawn collection on Base. You never need one to play, and there's nothing to buy in the game. onomogo
manuelcondect
Played a 3v3 practice against the bots with no sign-up and it started straight away. My beacon went down with 1:55 still on the clock, so the match ended well before the moon phase, and the scoreboard put me on #3905 (All-rounder) at 1,141 damage while every other penguin on both teams sat between 2,900 and 4,950; I cannot tell whether that gap came from me being knocked out twice or from the auto-attack doing nearly all of the work. I did find the Focus button with its countdown running from 7 s down to 2 s, but nothing out in the arena told me the power had landed. Does a practice match usually get decided that early, and would a cue on the target help when the power fires?
