[WIP] Snow317.io – a tiny 8-bit incremental RPG in plain JS

Hi all,

I run a long-running Java game server (SnowRSPS, online since 2012). This year I started a browser spin-off in plain HTML/CSS/JS, with no engine and no framework, and I'd love feedback from people who build web games.

What it is

A single-page clicker/incremental RPG. You click to attack, earn coins, and buy weapons, armour and pets. Pets add DPS, and Auto Attack unlocks early so it turns into an idle game. Waves and cycles scale the monsters. There is a top-10 leaderboard, and closing the game resets your run, roguelike-style.

Tech notes

- DOM-based UI (tabs and buttons) instead of canvas, so it's easy to make responsive and touch-friendly.

- Pixel font (Press Start 2P) plus a CSS snowfall effect for the look.

- A single script file. Next I'm splitting it into modules and adding real audio.

Where I'd like eyes

1. Early pacing: is the first upgrade too slow or too fast?

2. Mobile layout on small screens.

3. Any ideas for showing big incremental numbers cleanly. Coins currently start at 0.00001.

Screenshots: I'll add them in a reply once uploads work.

Fun aside: the original server streams itself 24/7, if you want to see the game this was shrunk from: https://snowrsps.com/live?utm_source=html5gamedevs&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=snowrsps-promo

Thanks for looking!

Update: we just shipped 2.4 and 2.4.3. 2.4 has a new old-school style layout, animated monsters on a swirly color backdrop, a world boss and a live world feed. 2.4.3 adds sound, all made in code with Web Audio (sword clangs change with the weapon, crit crunches, boss thuds, coin jingles), plus a Settings panel with volume sliders, text size and colorblind mode. Answering my own pacing question: we also added a Recommended bonus that auto-picks after 20 seconds, so new players never get stuck on a choice. It's the SnowRSPS Mini link in the first post. Still happy for feedback on mobile layout.
