Paroxysm is a modern supernatural roleplaying game: a free, text-based multiplayer RPG (MUD) that we're building, focused on immersive roleplay and player-driven stories. It's in early alpha and the world is still forming. The setting: World War II ended when a portal to Hell opened and half of humanity perished. From the ashes rose the Cortex, an authoritarian world government that now rules what remains of civilisation. The supernatural walk among humanity. Some hide, some openly defy the government, and some join the organisation hunting them. What's in it so far: - Play as a supernatural: a vampire, werewolf, demonborn or one of many other archetypes. - Or join the Cortex as an enforcer and hunt supernatural threats. - Supernatural powers, unlockable abilities and PvP. - AI Champions: NPCs powered by LLMs that behave like players and compete in events, so there's something to do when the server is quiet. - Factions and territory: alliances, claimed ground, and a world that changes with your actions. - A persistent world where your character matters.
