Particles Qs: P2 and General

Is there or is there not a P2 version of the particle system? I ran across some references from a few months ago that that was "coming soon", but haven't seen specifics since.


Assuming not, and thus that I'll be rolling my own: Are there any tricks or special considerations for implementing a particle system? I confess I had always assumed that particle systems were based on special algorithms for handling large numbers of bodies more efficiently than "real" bodies, but from the quick once over I've given the Arcade particle system it looks like the create particles are no different from any other physics bodies. Is that correct?
