How does velocity work? (Phaser 3)

I'm working on programming a rhythm game in Phaser, and I want to build an equation so that when I spawn the things, I'm generating them so that they reach the judgement line at a particular time. But to do this, I need to understand how velocity works.

What is velocity in phaser if it isn't how far the sprite moves in a single frame like it is in most engines I've worked with?
