GMS, Multithreading and interpretation

Hello, I was active GM user back in GM7 days. Back then Game Maker was very simple application, it was just an interpreter which executed the program which was packed within the exe bundle. Program had a poor encryption which was often broken and the plauge of decompilation had made everybody scared back then.

It have be lot of time since I tried GM specially for desktop game. Those who still use it how much have things changed? Do Game Maker now have a Virtual Machine or a JVM? Or still it runs with pure  interpretation?

 

Have they implemented some kind of multithreading support controlable by the user? Or at least automatic multithreading in their VM/JVM/Interpreter?
