BorkyBold Posted yesterday at 12:42 AM Share Posted yesterday at 12:42 AM Hi all! I've been building a small browser game called NOCTURNE ISLAND and it's finally live, so I'd really like some feedback from people who make this kind of thing. Play it here: https://nocturne-island.com Free, no sign-up, works on desktop and mobile browsers. Every day there are four short puzzles on a moonlit pixel island. Everyone gets the same set, and a new one arrives at 00:00 UTC: RANGE - estimation questions where you answer with a range instead of a single number. Two modes of 7 questions each. A tight range that contains the answer scores well, a miss scores nothing. TANDEM - one set of arrow keys moves two couriers at the same time. A wall only stops the courier that hits it, so you use the walls to line both of them up on their numbered tiles. The shortest route each day is 9-15 moves. CARGO - ten pieces with fixed orientation. Pick some of them and pack them into the ship's hold. There is always a subset that fills it completely. BLOOM - six pumps, each set from 0 to 3, water the flower beds through a visible connection grid. Find the setting that gives every bed exactly what it needs. How it's built Written from scratch in TypeScript, no game engine. The UI is React, and the island and room scenes are pixel art drawn on a 2D canvas with image smoothing turned off. Puzzles are generated on the server from a daily seed. The seed and the solutions stay on the server, so there's nothing to dig out of the client. For TANDEM, the generator runs a BFS over the positions of both couriers to check that each puzzle is solvable and that its shortest route is 9-15 moves. Your score is 100 minus one point for every action over that (undos and restarts count too). BLOOM's connection grid is built so the answer is always unique, and the tests brute-force all 4096 pump settings to make sure. What I'd most like to know: is any of the four confusing the first time you play it, before you open the help? And if you've made daily games yourself, did a single 00:00 UTC reset for everyone work for you, or did players ask for local midnight? Thanks for taking a look!
