Can't load phaser examples using lighttpd on ubuntu

First I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 32bit, with lighttpd as a web server.

 

Sorry to bother everyone but I have been unsuccessful about loading the basic examples. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

 

I cloned the repos "phaser-examples", and "phaser".

 

Installed lighttpd on my ubuntu machine. Then proceeded to copy the examples folder from phaser-examples into /var/www/ that's my webroot.

 

Now, when I enter "localhost/examples/index.html" in chrome it loads the examples page, but when I click on the 'BASICS' examples they won't load. for the 'load an image' example it says:

 

"Unable to load basics/01 - load an image.js"

 

I'm stuck because the other examples in the "Game" category load fine and are playable. So, what's going on?

 

Any help or pointer to the solution to my problem is greatly appreciated.
