Best Practice for Storing Custom Data?

How do we store custom attributes about things? Say a sprite is "owned" by an individual player.

Should we just add our own attributes to the sprite object?  Wouldn't we be in danger of clobbering namespaces?

Should we create "container" objects that have sprites inside of them?  Then they are harder to pass around to things like collision functions.

Yes, just add the property to the sprite object.

Each sprite has a unique name so there's no danger of namespace conflicts.
