"Mozilla, Deutsche Telekom, LG, Qualcomm, TCL/ALCATEL ONETOUCH, Telefónica, ZTE and a number of other tech companies today launched a new initiative that aims to promote the open Web device ecosystem by “encouraging API compliance as well as ensuring competitive performance.”

Well, who knows what the future holds. Android OS gained serious traction in just a few years - back in the days when the market was completely new, immature and Apple had a huge advantage. Now, with HTML5-JS being the new platform for device-agnostic programming, OSes may become rather irrelevant.
