Job opportunity at Synthesis

Recommended Posts

Hello World!

I am the Director of Engineering at synthesis.is, where we are building web-scale simulations/games that were developed within the school Elon Musk founded for his children; and we have the aim to bring those experiences to the world of 8-14 year olds with the mission of building the next generation of innovators, efficacious problem solvers, and collaborators.

While we are an engineering organization of highly experienced web developers capable of building out the experiences outside of the games, we find ourselves making simulations/games for the web where we lack the industry experience of games development.  Our lack of experience and knowledge in game development tech, processes, best practices, etc leaves us with a really interesting opportunity for someone who is interested in leading the architecture and development of a kind of "game studio" within our engineering organization from the ground up.

Our current simulations span implementations from vanilla JS + polling APIs to PixieJS + WebSockets and we want to reach a level of sophistication where we're regularly producing simulations using 2D or 3D WebGL rendering + Websockets.

To that end, we are interested in developing ubiquitous design patterns, tooling, and infrastructure across our various simulations/games so that development and management of each project doesn't require a disparate set of patterns and skill sets.  Ideally we extend these patterns further into codified project-generation tooling that can assist in starting new simulations off on an efficient path where common tech, tools, and patterns are built into each project from the start.  That all said, we are unknowledgeable and all of these hypotheses could be wrong, but we are eager to learn!

  1. If you're interested in this opportunity, please do reach out!
  2. If you know someone who may be interested, please reach out, too!
  3. If you have some ideas, recommendations, suggestions, or war stories we could learn from, please reach out with those as well!

I guess the general sentiment would be, please reach out :)

Thank you for your time and consideration

Sean
