Unlike traditional action games, life simulators may not have a single clear definition of winning. Players can pursue different goals, including character development, financial progress, or simply exploring different life paths. This makes difficulty balancing an interesting challenge. If progression is too easy, decisions may feel unimportant. If outcomes are too restrictive, players might struggle to understand how to improve. I'm helping promote 1 in 8 Billion, a browser-based life simulator featuring different starting conditions, player choices, and character progression. Explore https://1-in-8-billion.com/ Would you design multiple difficulty settings, adjustable starting conditions, or one consistent simulation system? How would you balance challenge without forcing every player toward the same objective?
-
Random events can create variety, but too much randomness may reduce the importance of player decisions. A simulation could become frustrating if careful planning repeatedly produces outcomes that seem unrelated to previous choices. On the other hand, predictable results might make repeated playthroughs less interesting. I'm helping promote 1 in 8 Billion, a browser-based life simulator featuring different starting circumstances and interactive progression. Explore https://1-in-8-billion.com/ From a developer's perspective, how would you balance randomness with meaningful player agency? Should players be shown probabilities, receive explanations after an event, or discover patterns through repeated play?
-
Decision-based games depend on players believing that their choices matter. However, not every decision needs an immediate or dramatic consequence. Some outcomes might influence character progression gradually, while others may become important later in the simulation. The challenge is making consequences understandable without revealing every possible outcome in advance. I'm helping introduce 1 in 8 Billion, a browser-based life simulator featuring player decisions and life progression. Explore https://1-in-8-billion.com/ From a design perspective, how do you communicate the importance of a choice? Would you use immediate feedback, long-term statistics, narrative events, or a combination? I'd be interested in hearing how other developers handle this balance.
-
Simulation games often involve repeated actions, especially when progression happens across many turns or years. Manual choices can make players feel involved, but repeatedly asking for minor decisions may interrupt gameplay. Optional automation might help, although it introduces questions about transparency and player control. I'm helping promote 1 in 8 Billion, a browser-based life simulator with year-by-year progression and an auto-choices option. Explore https://1-in-8-billion.com/ Would you automate low-impact decisions while keeping major life choices manual? How would you explain automated outcomes so players understand what happened? I'm interested in practical UI and design approaches developers have used for similar systems. Disclosure: I'm helping promote this project.
-
Life simulation is a broad genre, and developers can approach it from many directions. Some games emphasize realism, while others focus on storytelling, customization, statistics, or unexpected decisions. For a new project, the challenge isn't necessarily adding more features. It may be identifying a specific experience that makes the game memorable. I'm helping promote 1 in 8 Billion, a browser-based life simulator featuring different starting countries, year-by-year progression, player choices, and visible character statistics. Explore https://1-in-8-billion.com/ From a game design perspective, which single area would you prioritize to make a life simulator stand out: deeper decisions, clearer progression, better onboarding, replayability, or something else? And what common design mistake would you avoid?

Hi everyone! My name is Adrián and I represent Legends of Learning. Through an innovative marketplace of educational games, we teach math and science to nearly 10 million students in over 30,000 schools (and growing fast). We are looking to work with passionate game developers interested in revenue share to build FUN games that also happen to teach. Games on our platform usually consist of 10-15 minutes of gameplay to teach a specific academic topic, and developers have complete creative freedom (really!) in how that topic is taught. The longer your game stays on the platform, the more you will earn. Some devs have multiple games on the platform, so their total earnings can be much higher. Just last year, we distributed $1 million dollars to game developers. You also retain game IP and can reuse existing assets from your previously made games, provided that it makes sense in the context of an educational game for kids. Forget about dealing with marketing and focus completely on game development! Whether you are an independent developer or part of a 100-person studio, we want to work with you. Unlike other platforms where only a few lucky studios strike gold in a "winner take all" marketplace, Legend's innovative model provides significant and growing payouts to the MEDIAN developer, with great payouts for top developers. Does building games that matter sound interesting to you? Visit Legends of Learning Game Dev – Be Part of the Revolution and sign up!

Hi! We need to develop a short HTML game for a website and a small museum installation with 3 different activities and difficulty levels, for touch-screens (must be played with touch) with a base resolution of 1920x1080; our main priority is to have that game ready for the exhibition. Would be great but not imperative: to make the game responsive (scalable to display proportion) based on device. All the groundwork and design has been completed, and we have a first "test" developed what you could take or not as an advance. We are based in Guadalajara México and we have a very tight schedule for this project, please get in touch with me if this project matches your skillset and you are available for the next 2.5 weeks.

Hello everyone, I am currently looking for a job/contract as a game programmer. I have experience using phaser.js, Unity and sdl. I have been programming as a hobby for the last 10+ years, with the odd programming job here and there. I really want to build up a portfolio, so I am willing to work on lower budget projects (within reason). I have two html5 games published on the Chrome web store, one built from scratch, and the other using the phaser engine. Both of which I will link to down below. I can work on projects solo, or as part of a team. I am also a fast learner, so if you have a game library/engine you would like to use that I may not be familiar with, I can pick it up with little or no effort. I am really looking forward to adding your projects into my portfolio! Thanks so much for your consideration.
